June 25 Evening Service (Johnny Fisher)

Sermon Recording: God Loves US as much as he loves Himself (Eph 2:1-9)
Powerpoint Slides: here

Summary:
God's internal, Trinitarian love extends to humanity.
Humanity responded by self-glorification rather than God glorification so the presence of God's Trinitarian love becomes destruction rather than glorifying.
Christ became human God-glorifying ... example, but more than just that.

God views us as totally forgiven, alive in Christ, raised with Christ ... deed done.
But we see ourselves behaving contrary to identity when we sin ...
  • sometimes as unhealthy guilt ... God must be angry with us again
  • sometimes as healthy ... we are not as we should be, God, in your love change us.
This is receiving forgiveness that has already been completely given.

Leads to ... how do we see others? ... as God does, forgiven, or as we see ourselves ...
behaving contrary to our identity.

June 18th Evening Service: Ephesians 1:3-14

Sermon Recording (second half of sermon only ...)
Powerpoint slides: God Loves Us as Much as He Loves HIMSELF

Is God inconsistent to plan things for the praise of his glory, but require that we show humility to one another?
Who do we think God is? Are we tempted to also try to customise God to fit our desires?
God did the choosing, before the world began. God chose to include humanity in his Trinitarian life.
The Trinity is God the Father, God the Son, God the Spirit glorifying one another out of love for one another. To include humanity in this is the ultimate act of grace.
Humanity is designed to respond and image this self-giving love of God, back to God and to each other.
That's why we put God at the centre of all we are and do.

June 11th Evening Service: Esther 10

Powerpoint slides: God's Pre-Eminence

Sermon Recording

God made Mordecai a great man, where he had once been a lowly servant.

The Jews were allowed to defend themselves. The King was affected by the news of the Jews successful self defence and offered Esther even more ... what a change in the King's heart, from the guy who banished Queen Vashti.

Esther hadn't asked for this position, or role. But God had his plans for her in it.
We need to let God use us where we are, recognising we can't always understand why we're there.
Ask God what it is he's doing with us and step out in faith with him.

June 4: Morning Service. Jude 24, 25

God is Able!

What are the questions we are struggling with?

When we take them to this verse we recognise God is able to deal with the issues we feel we can't.

May 28th Morning Service: Jude 17-23

Powerpoint slides: Lets Talk About Surprises

Sermon Recording

Summary: From Jude 17 we learn that God has warned us of the kinds of things that will happen as we live Christ centred lives. These are no surprises to God.

But throughout hardship God longs for us to grow in knowing more deeply his love for us, as we live more fully dependent on him, rather than innoculating ourselves against pain by living halfheartedly for Christ.

Only when we know the depth of God's love for ourselves do we know the depth of his love for others, believers and non-believers, and treat them as loved by him. We learn to see others in God's eyes.
